NEW DELHI: Ikea, a Swedish retailer of home furnishings, is discontinuing operations at its buying office in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) region, where it has been present for decades.
The move, which has resulted in a number of dissatisfied employees on the part of the retailer, took place not long after the inauguration of one of the firm’s largest locations in Bengaluru.
An employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that Ikea is putting up its new buying office in the grounds of the Bengaluru store. The company has also notified to its staff that they have the option to either relocate or search for possibilities outside of the organisation.
An Ikea spokesman informed TOI that the process of relocating would begin immediately and will be finished at the end of April 2023. This information was provided when the spokesperson was approached. There will be a transition period of ten months for employees.
The bulk of Ikea’s locations in India are going to be consolidated into one hub in Bangalore, according to a spokeswoman for the company. “We are now entering the fifth decade and want to continue putting ourselves up for long-term and sustainable success,” the spokesperson added.
If an employee chooses not to relocate to Bengaluru, the business has stated that it will assist them in locating career prospects inside Ikea or provide them with support in the form of job coaching from an outside source.
